WALCOTT MIGHT BE BACK
After appearing to tear his hamstring quite severely in the match against Chelsea, it looks like Arsenal winger Theo Walcott will be back in time for the final group stage match at the Euro 2012. Immediately after the 0-0 draw with Chelsea, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that Theo Walcott has been ruled out of the Euro 2012. Despite the presence of a number of wingers within the England squad, many reckon that Theo Walcott needs to be present at the Euro 2012 in order to provide England with a chance of making at least into the semifinals.
This is because the England winger has made numerous assists for Robin van Persie this season to such an extent that the Dutchman has credited a lot of success to Theo Walcott this season. Robin van Persie has scored 36 goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season, while more than half of it come as a result of Walcott. Despite this, the former Southampton winger has said that he wants to score more goals in the future in order to be considered as a real threat in the team. He has scored just eight Premier league goals this season, although it is his best ever tally.
“It is less serious than we thought. He has a small chance to play in the last game. He won’t play against Norwich but for the Euros, there is no doubt. For the Euros, he is definitely available. It is minor – not as big as we thought it was. I think in fact the injury of Walcott is good news for England because he just has a little rest. He gets criticism because he raises the level of expectation so much that when he has a disappointing game or doesn’t make the difference, people straight away go at him because they expect something special,” said Wenger.
